The show is a modern take on the character, but it also has a very classic feel. It is very well made with excellent acting, a smart script, and really fun and engaging style[2]. It is one of my favorite shows on television.
Overall the plot of the season 3 premiere wasn’t as strong as some of the other episodes. It had its own storyline, but was more of a catch-up on what happened since the end of the last season. I am not going to recap it here, but season 2 left us with some pretty big unanswered questions. I really enjoyed how Sherlock (or the writers of the show) teased the fact that we have no clue what happened, and we might never find out. Multiple explanations are acted out on screen, and we can be fairly certain that none of them were anywhere close to the truth.
As expected, the premiere was heavily focused on the relationship between Sherlock and Watson. I’ve never enjoyed the “bro-mance” elements to the series or the allusions to them be a couple. I don’t have a problem with it, I just don’t find it that interesting. Even though the Watson vs Sherlock angst was being laid on thick, I didn’t mind it. I guess I was just happy for them to be back.
I can’t wait for the next two episodes!
